Research Highlights:

The Tam Laboratory explores the endocannabinoid system (ECS) and its role in metabolic diseases, focusing on drug development and translational research. Key achievements include developing peripherally restricted CB1 receptor antagonists, which show therapeutic potential in obesity, fatty liver disease, acute and chronic kidney diseases, diabetes, and dyslipidemia. The laboratory integrates multiple state-of-the-art approaches, leveraging expertise in pharmacology, endocrinology, biochemistry, molecular and cellular biology, high-throughput ‘omics analyses, and in vivo metabolism. With a multidisciplinary team, the lab bridges basic science and clinical applications, driving innovation in ECS-related therapies. Our efforts are further supported by strong ties with industry, facilitating the licensing and commercialization of novel drug candidates. The Tam Laboratory addresses significant global health challenges through these endeavors with impactful, translational research.
