Research Highlights:

The Shekh-Ahmad Lab is dedicated to unraveling the critical role of oxidative stress and reactive oxygen species (ROS) production in the progression of epilepsy, from the epileptogenic phase to the establishment of chronic epilepsy, using advanced experimental models. Our research aims to identify and target key molecular and genetic modulators to develop innovative antioxidant therapies that mitigate excessive ROS production implicated in epileptogenesis and disease pathophysiology.

To achieve these goals, we employ a multidisciplinary approach integrating cutting-edge techniques and experimental methodologies, including gene therapy, genetic engineering, live-cell imaging, electrocorticography (ECoG) for seizure monitoring in animal models, and in vivo live imaging of freely behaving animals. This comprehensive experimental framework enables us to bridge molecular insights with functional outcomes, advancing the development of transformative therapeutic strategies for epilepsy.
