Research Highlights: (5 to 6 sentences)

The research in the Laboratory for Free Radicals Research, Antioxidants and Biological Redox focuses on the beneficial and deleterious role of reactive oxygen species in health and diseases and along the aging process. In the last 10 years the lab main hypothesis suggests that skin may serve as window that can reflect endogenous biochemical and pathological processes especially those associated with oxidation processes. Therefore, the team studies the optical, biochemical and volatiles signature of skin using a variety noninvasive technique that were developed in the laboratory. The team also focused on studying the role of the Nrf2-keap1 pathway in maintenance biological redox balance with an emphasis on the cutaneous physiological redox. We are trying to demonstrate the involvement of the brain-skin axis in controlling the redox status via the activity of the Nrf2-keap1 pathway in the cutaneous tissue.
