Research Highlights:

The Priel Lab focuses on understanding the molecular mechanisms of pain modulation and nociception, emphasizing the role of ion channels in these processes. Our research investigates ion channel biophysics and pharmacology, particularly their interactions with natural compounds like cannabinoids. Using advanced techniques such as mutagenesis, electrophysiology, and structural collaborations, we aim to uncover ligand-binding sites and elucidate activation and inhibition mechanisms in channels like TRPA1 and TRPV1. A key area of interest is the analgesic potential of modified cannabinoids and their specific effects on nociceptive pathways. Through this work, the Priel Lab seeks to provide critical insights into pain pathways and contribute to developing innovative therapeutic approaches for pain management. Ultimately, we aim to identify alternatives to opioids, offering safer and more effective solutions for treating pain.
